A Smaller Super Yacht
Crew wanted: Deckhand
Vessel: Power Boat

CaptJezz: This is a volunteer position ideally suited to a waterperson, that would perhaps have plenty of unlogged sea time and experience with private vessels on an amateur basis and would see this position as a step-stone towards a career as a paid Capt, engineer or crew. I capt. this vessel for a private family that enjoy long weekends or vacationing down here on the Southern Baja. We trip between La Paz and Cabo for the most part with some runs up to Loreto or out to the local Islands around La Paz.
In Cabo we prep the vessel and typically pilot the boat for the owner, family and guests for day trips, sunset cruises, etc… In La Paz, we prep the ship and the owner often pilots themselves for a weekend aboard in a quiet bahia anchorage, we then cast off and catch. The work we do apart from cleaning and polishing and keeping the vessel in Show Condition also includes; basic engine maintenance and service, the watermaker, gen-set, other filters and seawater strainers, electrical and electronic maintenance and service. We strive and succeed at having a state of readiness and presentation with little or no unanticipated down time of the ship, anticipating problems. We also do the airport run and other odd livery services for the owner and guests and maintain that vehicle. That’s the big picture.
This ship is on the Smaller side of the “Super Yacht” but, that means we wear many hats. Your part would be focused on the deck work underway, watching out for people/kids as they might move about the boat, participating in cleaning and polishing, bottom scrubbing and participating and gaining experience in other repairs and service as time permits. This is not a fishing boat, you must be housebroken. While we do not typically provide “Silver Service” you should know silver service exists. You will also get some time and experience at the helm. I will do what I can to make this a valuable experience, indeed a step-stone.
Room and board are available, modest. We have accommodation ashore in both places. There is typically plenty of time between the action and you should be able to enjoy the local flavor. We have, available for your use; a quiver of surfboards, dive and snorkel gear, we have our own dinghy’s one w/10 and one w/15hp, we also have a 37’ sailing cat (needs some work). On work days expenses will be provided for. In many ways this is a family affair so, we enjoy sharing meals, a drink or 2 and hope you’ll fit in with that sort of thing.
I have a 3 month trial period on this but, it could be extended by mutual agreements. Looking forward to your responses. I am going to review application and make a decision over the next week and would like to move forward relatively quickly from there. Please be ready to travel on short notice.
