A low-key young couple is looking for a full-time Deckhand/Mate to join us aboard the 2021 48' Absolute Navetta yacht, Turas Mara. This crew member will live aboard the vessel in a guest cabin with a private cabin and head, and will ensure all maintenance is completed and the boat is ready for voyages.
In the summer months the boat will be docked in Downtown New Bern NC with trips along the US East Coast. New Bern was founded in 1710 and downtown boasts 15+ restaurants and bars. This position incudes use of a car.
In the winter months, the owners and crew will go on an extended voyage to Florida, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands.
Compensation includes monthly stipend, full benefits, housing, and use of a car. The boat is for private use only – no charters.
We also have a 2023 21’ Grady White we use often and you can help with keeping clean, etc.
Responsibilities:
Seamanship Skills: Possess a solid understanding of seamanship principles and practices. Assist owners with docking, anchoring, and navigating the vessel as required. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
Maintenance and Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep both exterior and interior vessel in top condition. Coordinate with vendors for specialized maintenance and repairs as needed. Help with provisioning.
Mechanical Knowledge: Have basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and address minor issues onboard. Perform engine checks, plumbing, electrical systems, and other mechanical tasks as needed.
Travel: Travel onboard with the owners on longer trips, including extended journeys along the US East Coast in the summer and Florida, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands in the winter.
Living Arrangements: Live aboard the vessel. Cabin and head to themselves. Off-boat housing provided when required.
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a deckhand or mate on a yacht
Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Must be eligible to work in the United States and eligible to travel abroad
Hospitality experience is a plus
