Watch: Sai See: light wind sailing
Sailing from Hamble every two weeks until early October 2026
Sai See is a 40 foot, teak-hulled, 1960 Sparkman & Stephens yawl.
I’m looking for enthusiastic crew with any level of experience to join the boat for a weekend cruise in the Solent departing from and returning to Hamble.
Sai See is a classic yawl and so different to sail than a modern boat. We will generally reef a mainsail earlier, and even sail on just the jib and mizzen. On other occasions and points of sail, we may have a genoa, main, mizzen and mizzen staysail all flying. She's a great boat for an engaged and curious sailor who wants to tinker!
During the weekend, we may stay overnight at harbours on the Isle of Wight or the mainland. Alternatively, we may explore camping out in Newtown Creek or around Hayling Island / Chichester.
Sai See is quite rustic compared to modern plastic yachts, but she does have a galley, comfy bunks and a new, clean lavac toilet. Shower facilities are available onshore where the boat is berthed in Hamble, as well as at the marinas we visit.
Crew join the boat based on a shared contribution of costs - booked in advance, this is around £180 per person.
No passengers! Sailors only! :-D
Dates for 2026 sailing in the Solent from Hamble:
8-9th Aug
22-23rd Aug
29-31st Aug (Bank holiday weekend!)
19-20th Sept
3-4th Oct

Happy sailing!

Great weekend in the solent
Have sailed with Sai See twice now in August. Nice classic boat moored on the hamble river, Andrey is a very experienced skipper, easy going and likes to make sure everyone gets involved on the boat.
