We're a cruising couple looking for crew to join our trip to Opua New Zealand in early to mid September. Option is to depart early November. Probably stop at amazing Minerva reef on the way. Experience preferred, but not essential, also good humor, love of the ocean, and adventurous spirit! Our yacht Salote is fully refurbished with modern systems including auto pilot. Key duties are to stand 3-hr watches, help with sail changes. You will have your own cabin.

Boat descriptionProven blue water design for comfort and safety without sacrificing adequate speed. Moderate displacement, 2.4m draught, and canoe stern contribute to the comfort factor. Sails at 5-8 knots comfortably depending on the breeze and sea state, have had up to 11 knots downwind but that's pushing it a bit! Cutter rig with sail options from light wind cruising chute down to storm staysail and 3rd reef mainsail or trysail. All safety gear up to date including EPIRBs, life raft, VHF radio, Iridium sat phone, yoke life vests, tethers, jacklines, etc. Refurbished or replaced all instruments, hull fittings, plumbing, electrical systems, new engine, and new rigging since we bought her in 2022. Accommodation for crew on offshore passages is an aft pipe berth, and sea berths in the saloon. Owners' cabin aft, forward cabin used for storage on longer voyages. Toilet and shower, hot water only when engine is running. Galley has a new LPG stove, fresh water pressure, inverter for boiling the kettle or other low amp devices. 12v USB ports for charging items.

Chris as crew
Chris crewed with us on our Tasman crossing in January 2024 Hobart to Nelson. He was our third on our very modest sized classic sloop/cutter. Having an easy personality, confidence and sailing skill set are imperative on such a challenging ocean voyage and Chris ticked all those boxes, without ever taking unnecessary risks. He was a great addition to our crew and was always easy to get along with and willing to offer help at any time. We had one challenging night of 50 knot gusts in 40 average and seas built to 6 meters, Chris was eager to be on hand and remained calm and effective throughout these challenging conditions. I know that Chris and Lucy, will be both thoughtful and sensibly planned and prepared sailors and would very happily cross the Tasman with them if I had the time. I am very confident they will take great care of their crew.
