We're crossing the Atlantic — and we have room for you.
On 4 April 2026, SY Simaia departs Sint Maarten bound for the Azores. Estimated passage time: 15–20 days. We're a small, well-organised group - two experienced skippers and two guests already aboard — and we're looking for one or two more sailors to complete the crew.
The boat
Simaia is a Dehler 44, set up for extended offshore sailing. She's spacious, well-maintained, and fully equipped for bluewater passages: radar, AIS, EPIRB, life raft, lifelines, rescue sling, sea anchor, flares, watermaker, solar panels, hydro-generator, dinghy and a full safety kit. Four cabins, 8 berths, a proper galley, practical saloon and a roomy cockpit. Pillows are on board — bring your own sleeping bag and bedding.
The passage
This is no standalone adventure. The Simaia has been sailing a full Atlantic Circuit since July 2025, and this leg - Sint Maarten to the Azores - is one of the final chapters. The route is well-planned, the boat is proven, and the crew knows what they're doing.
What sets this apart
Our lead skipper (Frank) has completed two Atlantic crossings and is a qualified sailing instructor with years of offshore experience. This passage is also backed by a professional sailing school with an experienced support team on shore - contingency planning, real backup, and the kind of structured environment that makes a long offshore passage genuinely enjoyable. This isn't a private boat with a spare bunk. It's a well-run bluewater passage with real safety margins.
Who we're looking for
Sailors who are comfortable on watch, easy to live with, and ready to contribute. Mile builders welcome. Prior offshore experience is preferred, but attitude matters more than logbook hours.
Costs
We work with a commercial rate, but are open to a daily cost-contribution arrangement for the right person. Get in touch and we'll discuss.
Also available: continuing to Cherbourg
Interested in going further? If you join for Sint Maarten - Azores, there's the option to continue aboard for the next leg to Cherbourg, departing 9 May for approximately 15 - 20 days. This extension is not available as a standalone leg.
