Do You Prefer Dogs to People Like We Do?

S/V Dog's Chosen People is looking for crew to join us, preferably permanently but we are always willing to entertain and educate anyone interested in our lifestyle.

We are two men with severe social disabilities who chose life on a world cruising sailboat so we don't unduly burden society with our lack of social graces (or, we are two honest human beings who can't handle a society built on lies...take your pick).

We seek crew to join us. We are quite picky about our crew and encourage you to seek elsewhere if you are a smoker, narcissistic, self-centered, or dishonest. We find that we get along best with people who prefer the company of dogs to humans, so if you are a dog person, you will fit in quite well.

We offer a life to those who would join us permanently, and an adventure to those who seek to learn from us and enjoy our company.
You do not need skills but we do require you are able bodied.
We expect no more than for you to do your part and help with all daily chores including cooking, cleaning, sailing, maintenance and repairs, and having fun.

Your expenses are covered. Stipends may be available for short term crew or those who contribute extra such as helping with improvements, but we prefer to have you contribute based on the rewards you receive including a life aboard a truly unique vessel, and even the chance for you to singlehand this 90' schooner yourself!

We are presently in the upper Sea of Cortez finishing improvements and repairs and will be cruising the Sea for a few weeks until we figure out if we are going north, south, or west.

We have no set itinerary and hope to sit down with you and plan one.

We cannot provide transportation, you will have to get yourself to us.

  • Boat descriptionOriginally Stella Serena, S/V Dog's Chosen People is a custom schooner setup for singlehanded by way of 7 furled sails. This is an amazing vessel which I both learned to sail upwind on, while also singlehanding, a testament to how easy to sail this vessel is. In fact, I was able to set the sails and sail upwind without autopilot or any kind of helm control, just sail balance! This is a fun vessel to sail. We are fully stocked with safety gear per USCG requirements and have extra as well. Our tender is a 17' century with for now an old Evinrude 40 two stroke. I am quite proud of the power system I put together, converting DCP to self sufficient solar power. We have three banks of solar panels totaling 12 at 3400 watts powering two banks of 12 series 24 marine batteries and powering so far 1 3000 watt inverter (I am shopping for another) in our 24 volt banks and 2 series 27 and 1 8D in our 12v bank. We are able to run our refer, water heater, electric skillet, electric fryer, and watermaker without starting the generator! This vessel was a private charter between California and Tahiti and is fully instrumented and in fact has instruments I have yet to use (SSB, Weatherfax...)
