Crew for occasional weekend or longer trips

Seeking enthusiastic, energetic crew to join me on my Westerly Oceanlord for local sailing and possibly longer trips.

Being less nimble than I used to be, I can no longer jump ashore with lines, or even move quickly around the deck - so this is an opportunity for novice crew to find out what sailing is all about, on a well-equipped cruiser, under the guidance of a retired sail training skipper.

There would be the possibility of becoming more regular crew for those who want to develop their skills and knowledge further.

Costs will be shared through a nominal daily contribution to the cruise “kitty”, typically £25 per head with four on board, but varying according to the number of people on a particular trip.

  • Boat descriptionUsed as a sail training vessel until recently, O.D.1 was Westerly's prototype for their flagship Oceanlord class. Designed as a “blue water” cruiser, she is sea-kindly, and looks after her crew well. Indeed, O.D.1 has completed a full circumnavigation with her previous owner, and I have taken her on several “Small Ships’ races” and a Tall Ships’ Regatta. With berths for 8, she carries all the safety gear required for a "category 2" sail training vessel - lifejackets, harness and lines; liferaft, lifebouys and dan bouy; DSC radio and AIS; chartplotter and instruments; extinguishers and gas detector etc. She has an excellent galley, enabling the preparation of good, “home-cooked” meals Some waterproofs are available for crew, but, unfortunately, no boots.
