Arctic Sailing Adventure: Inverness to Tromsø
We have up to two crew spaces available aboard Orlanda for a northern sailing adventure from Inverness, Scotland, to Tromsø in Arctic Norway.
We plan to leave Inverness around 4th August and arrive in Tromsø around 8th September.
We are a mixed crew of around 5–6 people, of different genders and ages, and we are open to anyone who shares a genuine sense of adventure.
Route:
Inverness – northern Scotland – Shetlands - Norwegian coast – fjords and remote anchorages – Tromsø
Sailing vessel:
Hallberg-Rassy 49
Previous sailing experience is not essential. We’re happy to teach the right people. What matters most is a positive attitude, willingness to learn, reliability and being prepared to muck in as part of the crew. You should be reasonably fit, comfortable spending extended periods at sea and excited by the adventure.
We’ll be selecting crew over the next couple of weeks. If you’re interested, send us a little about yourself, including:
* A short background about yourself
* Any sailing or outdoor experience (if any)
* What attracts you to this adventure
* Any relevant skills
* Any restrictions (health, visas, convictions, etc.)
* Your availability
* Favourite knot (or your best guess if you don’t know one!)
If it looks like a good fit, we’ll arrange a quick video call.
Ideally, crew will join us in Inverness on 4th August and sail through to Tromsø around 8th September. Depending on logistics, we may also consider crew joining for a substantial section of the voyage.
All shared expenses are split equally between the crew. These generally include fuel, marina fees, food on board, harbour clearances and any shared meals ashore. We’ll confirm an estimated contribution before departure.
You’ll need your own suitable cold-weather waterproof clothing. An offshore life jacket, PLB/AIS beacon and immersion suit are recommended but aren’t essential—we’re happy to discuss equipment with successful applicants.
This isn’t a luxury cruise—everyone helps sail the boat, stands watch, cooks, cleans and keeps Orlanda running. It’s a genuine expedition and an opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most spectacular sailing routes as part of a team.
