Experienced crew wanted aboard a Garcia Exploration 45 — New Zealand, January–February 2027
I’m looking for one experienced sailor to join me aboard a Garcia Exploration 45 for cruising in New Zealand during January and February 2027, ideally for both months.
This is an unpaid recreational crewing opportunity, with all onboard expenses covered, including food, fuel and marina fees. No contribution to the boat’s running costs is expected.
I’ll be skippering. You’ll help with sailing, manoeuvres, watches and everyday onboard tasks, with cooking and housekeeping shared between us. I’m looking for someone comfortable standing an independent watch and capable of taking over the boat if needed.
I expect to have family or friends aboard for much of the trip: my wife will join us in January, and two friends will join for around 7–10 days in February. You should be comfortable sharing the boat and sailing with a small, sociable group.
You should have solid, recent experience aboard sailing yachts, ideally including skippering. Experience cruising New Zealand waters would be a big plus. A calm attitude, good communication and being easy to live with matter just as much.
Boat: Garcia Exploration 45
Your accommodation: You’ll have the aft cabin to yourself when it’s just the two of us and while my wife is aboard. During my two friends’ visit in February, you’ll move to a bunk in the passageway for around 7–10 days.
Planned cruising area: To be determined, starting from the Auckland area.
Joining and leaving: Joining in the Auckland area; exact dates and disembarkation port to be agreed.
Travel to/from the boat: Costs and arrangements to be discussed.
Trial sail: November 2026, with exact dates to be agreed.
If interested, please send me a short introduction, your availability for both the November trial and the main trip, and a summary of your sailing experience — especially boats you’ve skippered, independent watchkeeping and any sailing in NZ. Please also mention where you’re currently based.
We’ll have a video call, exchange sailing references and arrange a trial sail in November to make sure we’re a good fit.
