Crew Wanted – Darwin to Sorong / Raja Ampat

Departing Darwin mid-October 2026 for an unforgettable voyage through some of the most spectacular cruising and diving grounds in Indonesia. We will clear into Indonesia after crossing from Darwin, then sail north through the Timor and Banda Seas via the Spice Islands toward West Papua, finishing in Sorong and exploring Raja Ampat. This is a classic eastbound passage combining open-water legs with remote island-hopping, world-class reefs, and rich cultural experiences.
This is not a paid position.
Everyone on board contributes to fuel costs, meal preparation, and keeping the boat clean and tidy. In return you get a genuine offshore sailing adventure on a well-found catamaran through eastern Indonesia to Raja Ampat.
Preferred: A couple or two friends who already get along well and are easy-going.
Sailing experience is highly valued (especially night watches and basic boat handling), but a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to live happily in a small shared space are just as important.
Important: The entire schedule is 100% dictated by the weather. We only move when it is safe and comfortable. Flexibility is essential.

You won't find a more chilled but attentive & safety conscious skipper than Lawrie. La Paloma is beautifully specified & kept in immaculate condition, including the super-cool tv that appears / stashes itself beneath the nav-station on Lawrie's command - I watched all those youtube sailing channels that I feel guilty about watching at home! Skipper Lawrie had the pleasure of my company (?) from Horn Island to Darwin - around 2 ½ weeks / 750nm, with 4 ½ night passages & a bit of motoring when the winds disappeared. After Gove harbour there's no further provisioning options before Darwin, so you can only imagine how frustrated Lawrie must have felt when I left one of the supermarket bags in the supermarket (which is a $50 taxi ride away!). Brilliant (near) 3 weeks on the boat, and most of that is down to the skipper - many thanks, Lawrie and good luck with your future sailing endeavours. Chris
