Watch: Neel 51

Spain to Caribbeans. Mile building on a Neel 51

The plan for 2026 is to sail from mainland Spain to the Caribbean, departing in October, and later most likely continue on to the Pacific.

The boat is a Neel 51 trimaran. She offers plenty of living space—around 100 m²—together with good performance, excellent safety, and a very comfortable setup for long-distance cruising.

On board there is a proper, fully equipped galley, a watermaker providing plenty of fresh water, air conditioning, Starlink internet, and a substantial solar-power system. There is plenty of space to relax, work online, and enjoy some privacy during a long passage.

I have logged more than 30,000 nautical miles, including three Atlantic crossings, mostly sailing solo or with a small crew.

This is not a paid position, but I am not asking for any financial contribution towards the passage either. I am looking for one or two additional crew members, making a total of three or four people aboard.

On a well-planned passage aboard a well-prepared boat, there is usually not a huge amount of physical work to do. The boat is highly automated, and the autopilot, radar, AIS, alarms, and other navigation systems make watchkeeping relatively straightforward, although a proper lookout must always be maintained. Someone who enjoys cooking and can prepare good meals at sea would therefore make a particularly valuable contribution to life aboard.

Requirements:

* Some offshore experience, ideally a passage lasting at least two days, or a realistic belief that you can handle a non-stop ocean passage of up to approximately 20 days, although I expect the actual crossing to be shorter.
* Good physical fitness, stamina, and general health.
* A calm, adaptable personality and the ability to live comfortably in a small group for several weeks.
* No highly restrictive dietary requirements that would make shared onboard cooking difficult.
* A cooperative attitude and willingness to take a fair share of watches, cooking, cleaning, and other everyday duties aboard.

When applying, please include a short introduction, your sailing or offshore experience, availability, dietary requirements, and what you feel you would contribute to the crew.
