Looking for a Competent Crew or Mile building position
Hi, i am Andrey, a Russian expat currently living in Berlin, Germany; i am a software developer by profession, have wife and 2 kids who are yet small enough to be taken on a boat. Once in a while i have the opportunity to abandon the family and seek a place on a boat and that's what i am here for.
I'm looking to join a sailing trip in early August, as my family will be away on holiday for two weeks - a perfect window for me to gain more sailing experience. Since it’s August, I’d prefer to avoid extremely hot regions, so areas like the North Sea, Baltic Sea, or the Atlantic coasts of Europe would be ideal.
I'm especially interested in something a bit more challenging - perhaps a delivery trip or a passage that involves longer distances or some night sailing. My main motivation is to build up hands-on experience, take part in real onboard routines, and grow as a crew member. That’s why I’d really prefer to join a trip with a clear plan or route, rather than something completely open-ended. That’s just a preference, not a strict requirement - I appreciate that opportunities with a fixed schedule can be limited.
As for my sailing experience, I have a skipper license and did a two-week sailing course in the Mediterranean, exploring the coasts of Greece and Turkey in 2019 and 2021 (one week each). Those trips really got me hooked on sailing. I’ve also completed a theory course and a VHF radio course, which helped me understand the basics of navigation and communication at sea.
In June 2024, I joined a short 4 day trip in the North Sea from Stavanger to Gothenburg as a competent crew member - a great hands-on experience that added to my skills. BTW, it also included a night shift, so i've got this under my belt as well.
Even though I’m still building up my practical experience, I think my mix of theory and real-life sailing makes me a solid candidate for a competent crew role. I learn quickly, work hard, and I’m always ready to help out wherever I can. If you need someone to lend a hand with navigation, deck work, or just enjoy the trip together - I’m in!
A bit about me: I tend to be more on the quiet side, but I’m respectful, easy to get along with, and happy to contribute. I can cook (at least for my family), play a bit of guitar, and absolutely love everything about the sea.
