Looking for a Friendship, Competent Crew, Deckhand or Voluntary work position
My name is Robbie Rodrigue, and I’m currently on Vancouver Island looking for an opportunity to crew aboard a vessel. I'm very flexible on departure location!
This journey is part of a personal and creative project called "PROJECT HUMANE". The heart of the project is simple: experience the kindness of strangers, restore faith in humanity, and show that trust between people still exists in the world. I genuinely enjoy listening, learning, and being useful. Boats, to me, are places where real human connection still matters.
From a practical standpoint, I have
• Master 60-Ton License (issued in Toronto, limited to Toronto Harbour)
• SVOP
• Marine First Aid
• Marine Emergency Duties
• Domestic Vessel Safety
• VHF Radio License
• Competent Crew
• 6 months experience working as a captain on boats in Toronto Harbour as well as a few years working on or around boats on the southern side of Vancouver Island.
I’m comfortable standing watch, handling lines, assisting with navigation, maintenance, safety procedures, and generally doing what needs doing without ego. I respect that it’s your boat and your systems. I’m also a photographer, and I’m happy to offer high-quality photos or documentation of your vessel or journey if that’s of interest—but there’s no obligation. My priority is contributing positively and earning my place aboard.
I’m flexible on destination, timing, and arrangement, and I’m more than happy to meet in person, talk things through, or do a short trial leg if that feels right.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your story and see if our paths align.
