About Me
Hi! I’m Ryan I’m 41, originally from Indiana, and semi-retired. I’m adventurous, easygoing, and happiest when I’m seeing new places and learning something new.
After college I took off on an around-the-world trip through Europe and Southeast Asia. Thailand is where I learned to scuba dive—and that pretty much changed everything. For the past 10 years I’ve been living mostly in Vietnam and Thailand. It’s been great, but I’m getting restless and ready for the next chapter.
Water Experience
I’m new to longer offshore sailing passages, but I’m very comfortable on and around the ocean.
• Rescue Diver
• 2,000+ dives
• Lots of time on boats, including liveaboards
• Seasickness has never been an issue (though I haven’t spent much time on small boats in rough seas)
I’m honest about my sailing experience, but I bring solid ocean awareness, respect for safety, and a willingness to learn.
What I’m Like Onboard
I’m easy to get along with, reliable, and low-drama. After a strong cup of coffee, I’m ready to start the day and get things done. I’m happy taking direction, standing watch, helping out wherever needed, and learning as much as I can.
Cooking & Downtime
I like to cook and do it most days. I won’t call myself a chef, but I can make solid meals and I take pride in it. I make some damn good scrambled eggs, enjoy a good steak, and keep things simple and satisfying.
Evenings are usually relaxed—cold beer, sunset, good conversation.
Why Sailing
I might be new to sailing, but I’m genuinely eager to learn. My long-term goal is to gain enough experience to confidently have my own boat one day. I’m not just looking for a ride—I want real hands-on experience.
Availability
I’m available now through May and currently in Southeast Asia. After that I’ll probably head to Europe to see some friends unless I find a good opportunity closer by.
