Looking for a Novice Crew position
Hi - my name is Michael and I’ve joined Crew Finder to gain some sailing experience. Like many on here, I dream of owning my own sailboat one day.
My experience so far is mostly limited to coastal sailing trips. I’m keen to get a realistic understanding of what life is like as a live-aboard. That includes the everyday challenges that don’t always make it into my idealized picture of calm tropical waters, sunny days, and abundant fishing!
I’ve been working as a land surveyor for the past ten years across Australia, including FIFO in the mining industry. I’ve owned a couple of fiberglass fishing boats. That gave me good hands-on experience maintaining and fixing outboard motors. I also enjoy working on my own vehicles. I fix, maintain, and modify them myself, so I’ve built up solid mechanical knowledge over the years.
Growing up on a farm, my father taught me a strong sense of self-reliance. I think that will translate well to life on a sailboat. I generally don't drink and I like to maintain a healthy active lifestyle.
I’m a passionate fisherman, spear-fisher, and diver. I love everything about the ocean EXCEPT sea urchins (don't ask). I’ve done a few day trips on a friend’s 26ft sailboat in Jervis Bay. Those trips gave me a basic understanding of how to handle a sailboat, and I helped with general maintenance like hull cleaning and replacing old rigging.
I’m happy to contribute financially. I’d prefer trips closer to Australia, but I’m open to international ones as well.
