Looking for Voluntary work, Friendship or Novice Crew position West coast Scotland
I live in Glasgow so not far from the wonderful West Coast of Scotland. Ive zero experience working on boats but am keen & a fast learner. Life wise I used to be a senior sales manager in the pharmaceutical industry. I gave that up in 08 to go travel the world. In 2012 I moved to Golden in the Purcell mountains of Western Canada to run a small backpackers aimed at adventurous folk! I loved that time & spent most of it outside in a variety of extreme weather conditions enjoying anything the mountains could throw at me. When not outside I was in the hostel with my guests. Most came & went over a matter of days but in winter there would always be a handful of "lifers", guests who committed to multiple month stays. We always got on & the small space was generally kept organised & tidy (with a LOT of repetative prompting to the younger teenage guests :)) Im still in touch with numerous guests & have stayed with a fair few in their own home countries. I ran the hostel by myself & as such was used to doing everything from cleaning to fixing washing machines, chopping wood. A lot of make do & mend! I moved back to Scotland in 2023 & have reaquainted myself with our continuous wet & windy conditions.
A Canadian friend of mine from Golden moved to Vancouver Island last year & bought a boat to live on. He is lucky to have that moored in central Victoria. I honestly thought the sailing life was out of my reach but my friend has taught me otherwise & encouraged me to throw myself out there! I have my RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship certificate & I aim to get myself on a competant crew course after the summer holidays are over. I would also like to enrol on the diesel engines course; from my Canadian experience of things breaking during inopportune moments, I would feel happier having some basic mechanical knowlege for those inopportune moments..The same with radio skills.
I'm pretty flexible time wise & available to even meet up for coffee & chat for a day if within a few hours of Glasgow
