Looking for a Friendship, Voluntary work or Novice Crew position
Hi, I’m Riccardo, a 30-year-old Italian traveller looking for opportunities to join a crew and gain real sailing experience.
I don’t have sailing experience yet, but I’m serious, reliable, and genuinely willing to learn. I’m used to hard work, long hours, shared living spaces, and adapting quickly to new environments.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked in hospitality, kitchens, housekeeping, remote mining camps in Australia, New Zealand, and seasonal jobs while travelling. These experiences taught me discipline, teamwork, patience, and how to stay useful even in demanding situations.
I speak Italian, English, and French, and I’m comfortable living and working with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
My main motivation is to learn sailing by doing. I don’t want to experience life at sea only as a passenger. I want to understand what living on board really requires: responsibility, teamwork, discipline, patience, and respect for the sea.
I’m happy to help with cooking, cleaning, watches, organisation, basic maintenance, and any daily tasks needed on board. I’m not afraid of physical work, simple living, or starting from the basics.
In the long term, my goal is to become skilled and confident enough to handle a boat independently. I know this takes time, practice, and humility, so for now I’m focused on learning step by step from experienced sailors.
Sailing is also connected to a bigger personal and creative project. I would eventually like to create a documentary about travel, the sea, and the skills needed to move through the world in a more independent and meaningful way. But before telling that story, I want to learn properly, contribute honestly, and understand life on board from the inside.
