Young skipper looking for ocean miles — night watch, navigation, good galley, humor
Hi, I'm Guney, 25, Turkish, currently finishing a master's in Alabama, U.S., and looking for ocean miles.
Started sailing in 2023 in Marmara, which is where most of my sea time is, day and night. Since then, I have done skippering and crewing in racing for my university team against other teams in different states. I completed my RYA Day Skipper in the Mediterranean, six days and five nights on a Jeanneau, successfully completed the full syllabus with night sailing and COLREGs, chartwork, MOB under sail and engine, VHF, radar, pilotage, and the provisioning and keeping the crew fed.
I worked through Yachtmaster theory on my own, so I can plan a passage and shape a course without GPS. Helming and sail trim are my strengths. I would also really love to learn celestial navigation from someone who actually uses it.
I also cook proper Mediterranean food, the ideal boat food... olive oil, lemon, garlic, tinned fish, beans, herbs. Things that keep without refrigeration.
Availability: Nov 18-30, Dec 5 - Jan 5, March 18-28 and then completely free from May 2027 onwards. Long legs are what I'm after.
Not looking for pay but I'm a student, so I'm honest about the limits of contribution. What you will get is a reliable pair of hands, someone who takes the 0400 watch without being asked twice, hot food when the weather's foul, and who turns up on the date agreed. References available, including the RYA Yachtmaster Instructor who trained me.
