Divemaster, photographer and biologist looking to learn the ropes in the South Pacific
Hi, I'm Rhys, 33, from UK. I've recently left a 10-year career in data product management to rebuild my life around the ocean, and learning to sail is a big part of that. My long-term goal is an ocean crossing, and I'd love to start by crewing and learning properly from an experienced skipper.
Where I'll be: In French Polynesia from October (Rurutu, Mo'orea, Tahiti) and available from November. I'm flexible on dates and happy to join for coastal hops, island-hopping or longer passages.
What I bring:
PADI Divemaster and freediver. I'm comfortable in and under the water, and happy to help with hull scrubbing, checking anchors and props, and snorkel or dive trips.
Photographer and videographer, above and below the water. I shoot on a Sony a7V with an underwater housing and edit in Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve. If you'd like photos or video of your boat and voyage, I'll happily capture it. (rhys-williams.com)
Hands-on and practical. I've worked on farms and am currently helping renovate a stone cottage, so I'm used to physical work, maintenance and getting stuck in.
Biologist (MSci, University of Bristol), with a love of marine life and a habit of pointing out interesting creatures.
Sailing experience: None yet, and I'm upfront about that. I learn fast, take instruction well and want to understand how things work, not just pull ropes.
On board: Easy-going, respectful of shared space, happy to cook, clean and do watches. I'm non-smoking. English is my first language, and I have basic French (improving!) and German.
