Hey sailors and adventurers! ??
My name is Abe Martens, I’m 26 years old, and I’m from the Netherlands ??. I’m currently in Cádiz, Spain, looking for a boat heading across the Atlantic towards South America.
About six months ago, I made a big decision: I sold my business. I had reached a point where I no longer felt at peace with the life I was leading, and I knew it was time for a change. Since then, I’ve sold almost everything I owned to pursue a new dream: cycling around the world while keeping my environmental impact as low as possible. ??
I’m now travelling with an open mind, looking for new challenges, discovering new places, meeting inspiring people, and learning more about myself and the world around me. I want to step outside my comfort zone, embrace the unexpected, and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.
? Why am I looking for a boat?
I’d love to cross the Atlantic by boat, experience life at sea, learn from experienced sailors, and become part of a crew working together towards a shared destination. For me, it’s not just about getting from A to B; it’s about the journey, the people you meet, and the experiences you share along the way. Plus, travelling by sea fits perfectly with my goal of exploring the world without flying. ?
? What can I bring to the crew?
I’m a practical, hands-on person who’s always happy to roll up my sleeves and help wherever needed, whether that’s with maintenance, repairs, cooking, cleaning, or anything else that needs doing. I’m hardworking, enthusiastic, adaptable, and eager to learn. Although I’m still looking to gain more sailing experience, I’m motivated to learn from others, listen, and do my part to make the journey a success.
And if I may say so myself, I’m also pretty good company! ? I enjoy a good laugh, sharing stories, meeting new people, and creating unforgettable memories together. I believe a positive attitude, a helping hand, and a good atmosphere are just as important as practical skills when living and travelling together on a boat.
