Friendly, Canadian hoping to crew this winter — loves travel, good company, and gaining real sailing experience

Hello everyone! ?

My name is Mark, and I’m a Canadian with a deep desire to explore, learn, and experience new cultures — while helping people and the environment along the way. My goal this winter is simple: escape the snow, find some sunshine, and spend time in the water swimming and snorkeling!

Availability – Winter 2025/2026

I plan to take several 4–5 week trips throughout the winter, ideally 3–4 in total, to dodge most of the snowstorms back home. I’d love to crew during these breaks — whether that means joining a boat for a month and returning later or finding flexible opportunities that fit both our schedules.

I’m available until mid-December, then again after Christmas. I’m open to chatting and seeing if our timelines align — or just connecting with fellow adventurers to share travel dreams and sea stories!

What I Bring Aboard

I bring a positive attitude, a good sense of humor, and a real desire to learn and contribute. I’m happy to help wherever I can — cooking, cleaning, maintaining, or just keeping spirits high. I love to cook and enjoy learning local dishes and new styles along the way. I’m responsible, adaptable, and quick to follow instructions.

My Sailing Goals

I’m here to gain hands-on experience and confidence on the water. My long-term dream is to have my own boat to live aboard and explore with — ideally within the next three years (before I turn 45). For now, I’m looking for opportunities to learn from others, help out, and keep building skills through real experiences.

A Bit About Me

I currently live off-grid in Ontario, Canada, on an old hunting camp that I’ve turned into a simple but beautiful home. Summers are spent gardening, chopping firewood, and improving the property. Winters are less forgiving — no indoor plumbing and a long snowy driveway — which is one reason I’m chasing warmer waters for part of the year!

My plan is to keep developing my camp into a more self-sustainable, peaceful retreat, where I can eventually spend retirement years (when I’m not out sailing).

Life Experience & Work Background

I grew up in a small Ontario town, raised by my dad, who taught me to work hard, respect others, and be resourceful. I started working construction at 13 and have done a bit of everything since — carpentry, electrical, landscaping, building maintenance, and more.

I earned my commercial helicopter license and spent time flying across Canada, working in both the public and private sectors. I’ve helped companies expand operations, started and managed small businesses, and even ran a catering company that served meals in a retirement home.

A Little More About Me

In my 20s, I had an accident that affected my mobility, but it also gave me perspective. I’ve learned to live within my limits, appreciate life, and focus my time and energy where it matters most — around positive people and meaningful experiences. I love helping with charities and community initiatives, and I aim to live with low stress and high gratitude.

I’m upbeat, patient, curious, and always ready for the next adventure — whether it’s on land or at sea.

Fair winds, and I look forward to connecting!
— Mark
