Hi! I'm Giacomo, an Italian sailor based in Geneva, Switzerland.
I hold an Italian sailing and motorboat licence with no coastal limitations, and I am currently building experience toward becoming a confident and independent cruising skipper.
Over the past few years I have sailed in the Mediterranean, Baltic Sea and Thailand, both on monohulls and multihulls. My experience includes offshore passages, night watches, anchoring and Mediterranean mooring, sail handling, spinnaker and storm jib, tender operations, tidal waters, and cruising as both crew and co-skipper.
Some highlights include an 800 nm passage from Naples to Greece on a Dufour Arpège 30, a 600 nm Baltic passage on a Kelsall 39 multihull, several one-week Mediterranean cruises in Sardinia, Croatia and Greece, training with Centro Velico Caprera, and most recently a week in Phuket as co-skipper.
I am now particularly interested in opportunities where I can continue developing practical seamanship, navigation, boat handling and skipper-level decision making. I am happy to join as crew and contribute fully onboard, and I especially value boats where the skipper is willing to involve the crew actively in sailing and navigation rather than simply having passengers aboard.
I am reliable, calm, proactive and comfortable living with other people in small spaces. I enjoy cooking and would be very happy to contribute in the galley as well as on deck.
Outside sailing, I work in finance and have lived, studied or worked in several countries. I am Italian and speak fluent English, good French, as well as some Mandarin Chinese and Turkish. I enjoy travelling, hiking, languages, cooking and learning about different cultures.
My long-term objective is to become experienced enough to safely skipper cruising yachts with family and friends, so I am looking for opportunities where I can learn, contribute and gradually take on more responsibility onboard.
