Q: What is your favourite boat and why? The one I'm on. The other ones are just memories or fantasies

Q: What’s your favourite boating experience? sailing offshore with a fair wind. Give me the tradewinds anytime.

Q: Where’s your favourite boating destination? West of Ireland: uncrowded, beautiful, well sheltered anchorages, and friendly local. Usually plenty of wind for sailing.

Q: What is the longest passage you’ve completed without stops? Distance: Guadeloupe to Terceira (Azores), 2 handed with my then 16 years old son on a 42 foot catamaran (2900 miles) Time: Guadeloupe to Horta (Azores) Single handed on a 35 foot sloop (23 days)

Q: Gin and Tonic in a beautiful anchorage or trimming the sails to get an extra half knot? The extra speed. I'm not a racer, but I like sailing well . Besides, I rarely drink and certainly not G&T.

Q: What’s your worst boating experience? Sailing through thunderstorms on a single-handed passage from the Canaries to the Azores. Thunder and lighting all around the boat. It was like being on a battlefield, not knowing if the next hit is going to be for you. And the wind was all over the place.
