Two full charter seasons in command of a 14 m Lagoon 470 sailing catamaran out of Sesimbra on the Portuguese Atlantic coast - passage planning, weather, anchoring and berthing in Atlantic swell and tide, guest briefings and safety drills, and every engine check, rig inspection and end-of-season job in between. Before that, a season as deckhand aboard a privately owned Catana 470 in Indonesia: inter-island passages, night watches, remote anchorages and reef approaches in poorly charted water, with no shoreside support.
Qualifications: Portuguese Ocean Skipper (Patrao de Alto Mar), no length, power or area limit. STCW Basic Safety valid to March 2031. Portuguese seafarer medical, fit for deck service without restriction, valid to February 2028 - Portugal is in Annex 1 of MCA MSN 1815, so it is accepted as ENG1 equivalent on UK-flagged vessels. VHF Radiotelephonist Class A. EU passport.
