Watch: Welcome to Ocean Nomads

Offshore Sailing Delivery Tenerife - Amsterdam on 36 meter Classic Schooner

We are teaming up with SV Twister again, delivering here back, from the Canary Islands to the Netherlands, a classic 36 meter schooner originally built in 1902.
A hands-on 2000- nautical miles voyage, together with a bunch of Ocean adventurers.

Twister has all safety measures in place and engine is used to a minimum (no scheduled end-date). Sailing is what we’re going to do! When there’s no wind, we’ll jump into the 3000 deep blue. Happy, safe, and meaningful. 2 plates is all we broke on the last 2000 miles trip. She has proven her solidness and captain and crew their professionalism.

About the trip

After a successful trip and team up with Twister autumn 2021 from the Netherlands to the Canary Islands (check the photos), we team up again for the delivery to her home country and facilitate ocean adventure.

On February 21, 2022 the Twister leaves Tenerife for a trip back home to Amsterdam. The boat sails in 3 – 4 weeks (depending on the wind) back to the Netherlands.

This is a hands-on active expedition. We have a professional captain and crew who’ll be showing you the ropes. You’ll have an active roll on board. Everyone on board is expected to take part in the running of the ship, including watch keeping, setting sails, cooking, provisioning, cleaning. It’s part of the experience.

This trip is a serious ocean adventure and some sea experience is required. It’s a great opportunity to make miles, experience a delivery, build your sailing CV, further develop seamanship skills and to get closer to undertaking deliveries on your own some day ?

Prior to the Adventure we also host a little Ocean Nomads meet-up to meet and mingle with more salty souls.

"Still smiling at the memories! Met – and still talking to – some lovely people. Refreshed my nautical skills (helming, navigation, astro identification, etc.) Shared some great experiences through conversation, music, stories, yoga, cooking together, seeing ocean wildlife, and so much more! – Richard"

"The experience on twister with other Ocean Nomads was just really beautiful and I felt connected for the first time in decades, I felt part of a community and had companionship. I was so happy that it’s so all inclusive of gender race religion nationality and most importantly age. It has connected me with like-minded people of all ages and being very transformational personally because my life has been incredibly isolated as a single parent Who works from home. I can honestly say October and November I felt happy and free for the first time in maybe 22 years - Cay" (Expedition ON 2021)

"I always had the dream to go sailing one day. But, like many, I did not grow up with sailing and I thought it’s something for the very wealthy. Now, thanks to the Ocean Nomads, I know different..
Last summer I had my first sailing experience on an Ocean Nomad Sailing Trip in Spain. I initially signed up for one week, but ended up staying 1,5 months, and sailed as part of the crew from Northern Spain to the Canaries Islands. On this trip, I met a lot of like-minded people with similar goals and dreams. I also realized that it is possible to learn sailing in a low-key, affordable way. After this trip, I got so inspired that I decided to buy my own sailboat. After some research, I decided to buy a previous sailboat of an Ocean Nomad friend that I just met, and together we sailed the boat from Ireland to Spain. Thanks to him I gained enough confidence to continue on my own. Without Ocean Nomads this would not have been possible. So if you are slightly interested in sailing, the ocean, meeting like-minded people and perhaps want to join a sailing trip in the future, have a look into Ocean Nomads! - Nadiem

  • Boat descriptionFor the upcoming expedition we collaborate again with a one-of-a-kind classic. Sail the ocean on her, with all safety measures in place and engine use to a minimum (no scheduled end-date). Sailing is what we’re going to do! When there’s no wind, we’ll jump into the 3000 deep blue. Happy, safe, and meaningful. 2 plates is all we broke on the last 2000 miles trip. She's one of the few classic vessels safely, legally taking souls out on the ocean without being on a tight schedule so we can actually sail and not engine. She’s beautiful. She’s solid. She’s big. She’s spacious. She’s super comfortable. She’s got soul. She lasts. Sailing ship Twister is a schooner built in 1902, with an impressive story to tell. Originally a fishing boat built out of wood, fifty-five years later, her wooden hull was replaced for a steel one so she could continue to fish. After 17 years in various ports, Twister was again rebuilt into the modern schooner that she now is. After the baptism in May 1999, under the name Twister, her speed since then proves the ship to be one of the fastest sailing ships of the Northern Europe sailing area. Renovated again in 2012, she was updated with all new safety features/equipment and all the modern comforts you could possibly want from a charter vessel. She sails under the highly regarded Dutch flag and complies with all related safety certificates. Her current owners are driven to sail her far, and with purpose. The aim is to facilitate memorable expeditions that people will treasure for life, and contribute towards a better planet. She has all the safetygear and professional crew will also join to comply with Dutch regulations. She's approved with all latest ocean necessities under Dutch law. She has sailed numerous ocean passages. What you'd need to bring is a good weather proof wear. The ship does have an awesome steering hut where we can shelter if it's cold or wet :) Learn about all trip and vessel details on our website www.oceannomads.co
