Captain - Temporary / Seasonal - $4000 - Costa Rica

Immediate delivery captain/crew needed. Seeking “experienced” Captian and crew to deliver my beloved 46ft 1983 masthead sloop Cal 2-46 from Costa Rica (Quepos, Marina Pez Vella) back to Los Angeles (Marina del Rey). I sailed her south from Los Angeles in 2020. However she is needed back in LA and a new born baby prevents me from taking off the time to do the delivery. No AIS, No Radar. No lifeboat. Has autopilot, solid engine, good sail and all the time in the world. Im not in a hurry to get her back, but Im in a hurry to get her out of Costa Rica before the season closes.

The boat has 2 private staterooms w en-suite heads, a beautifully maintained Perkins 2346 and borg Warner velvet drive that cruises at 6knots up wind at 1500 rpm’s. Also two furling head sails (one heavy and one light wind, and a storm sail that can be rigged to the inner stay. Only 1 main sail with 2 traditional reefing points.

If interested please let me know and share a bit about your experience and goals. Hope to hear from you.

James Arthur

  • Boat descriptionThe Cal 2-46 hull is an elongated version of the famous Cal 40 racing boats with a 5ft shoal draft Fin keel & spade rudder. A medium displacement cruising design, she displaces 30000 lbs, cruises at about 7 knots under power with an 85hp Perkins 4236. On deck Freya is a center cockpit masthead sloop with raised saloon. Harken roller furling for Genoa and full batten North mainsail with lazy jacks and 3 reef points. RayMarine autopilot IridieumGo Sat for weather. B&G Chart Plotter with Forward Scanning depth finder. 73lbs Rocna anchor on swivel with 300 ft of 3/8 chain. We carry a 12 foot inflatable on the bow with an electric torqueedo outboard to get around. Freya has a custom interior lay out modeled after the later Cal 3-46. This resulted in a yacht that preserved the wide open "deck saloon"windows of the 2-46 and combined it with the later "galley down" configuration of the 3-46 which significantly opens up the main cabin space. This boat has many extras that makes it stand out from the other 2-46's including larger ports, 3 extra fuel tanks, extra large water tanks, added insulation and reinforced bulk heads. The builder Bill Lapworth has stated that this was his favorite design and a yacht that he actually owned and circumnavigated with comfort and confidence. A walk through for the Cal 2-46 beginning in the bow. The bow of the boat has a nice large comfortable “V” bunk sleeps two in comfort. Going aft and to starboard is the forward head with washer/dryer and to port is a small table and large hanging locker which houses the A/C unit. Stepping into the main saloon to port is a settee and navigation station, across from the nav station is the lounge and dining table next to the lounge is a refrigerator and freezer and stove and oven. Going further aft, is a counter top and a large fridge and freezerr. Across the passageway is the galley with 4 burner gimbal propane stove and oven across from double stainless sink. Going aft is access to the aft stateroom. To port is the aft head and full shower stall along with access to the huge stand up engine room with a work bench, tools and ample access to the 2021 rebuilt Perkins 4326. Across from the head is a large hanging locker with a quarter berth and across is the vanity and double bunk. All in all this boat is a very comfortable long distance cruiser. Fuel Tank: 215 gallons - 3 tank(s) Fresh Water Tank: 270 gallons - 2 tank(s) Cabins: 3 Heads: 2
