Seeking good people to take part in adventure and to live a life at sea and at port

I have a 52ft steel monohull ketch and I would like to sail northern Australia, Indonesia head over to the East Coast and then onto the Pacific Islands.

The vessel is BIG. Shes safe and she needs love and attention to keep her going like all boats. She was built in the 1980’s as an island trading vessel and was originally build as a cargo sailing boat in Sydney, Australia. She was used in the Pacific islands and thus far has done two laps of Australia on her decommissioning.
I have spent over $200k on her and she is fitted with new safety equipment and entertainment to make her super liveable as I live on her full-time when I’m not away as a consultant.

I am seeking fun, cool, young at heart crew to continue my exploration of the world and add to the 26 countries I have visited this far.
I would like someone who is fit and healthy, mentally stable and a person who can relax and be in their own space and then also get after adventure. A person who is settled and accomplished in life and just a generally happy person.

I am seeking to share costs and this is something that can be discussed but it’s not a big outlay in funds but something more negotiated and worked through applicable for the adventure we plan together.

Experience isn’t a must, but, I will require the person to be able to operate safety equipment, sail and motor the boat, use VHF radio, be able to deploy the life raft and use flares etc that is to be expected and I can show them all of those things.

I am ex-army and hold a Masters Degree in Disaster and Emergency Response so I consult in industry as an emergency response training consultant, among other things.

  • Boat descriptionEx island training vessel. 5.5 meter beam 1.9 meter draft 52ft long She currently has three sails but can have up to 4. Torba Queen is a motor sailer with the rage to motor over 2,000 NM. For understanding that’s from Perth Western Australia to Mania in the Philippines - MASSIVE range, less tide and wind. She’s a solid steel ship. I’ve had her in rough conditions of 5.5 meter or 16ft breaking waves with gale force winds (not that I look for that or want to motor in those conditions). She’s got plenty of room. A massive deck that’s grassed, you just walk around her which is really nice. There’s a Viking 8 person life raft fitted with an automatic EPIRB on activation. Seperate EPIRB for main cabin, 2 additional wearable EPIRBs (so 4 in total), 4 fire extinguishers, 5 smoke alarms, a gas monitor, 4 PFDs, flairs for offshore cruising, AIS, radar up to 36 NM, x2 autopilots, deck lighting, safety running lines with dual clips on both decks, x2 MOB devices and more which make her very safe. You can spend time chilling by yourself, or with crew and never have I ever felt cramped onboard. She’s got a pop-up sauna, projector for movies and chill on the top deck in low to no winds, a study in the main cabin for work, video production, study and chilling, 2 hammocks, workout gear, cellphone booster, internet connection (not Starlink yet ?), a big TV, Xbox, 8 musical instruments (2 ukes), a big galley and heaps more to enjoy being on water ohh and a SUP board. She’s also got a big workshop for any boat jobs with plenty of tools and gear get stuck into boaty things. Anyone is welcome to bring along other toys and gear that reasonably fits on her. Good luck ever being bored on Torba Queen haha.
