  • Boat descriptionI have owned "Smidgen" for 13 years, sailed her Brisbane to Perth 12 years ago and now, upon my retirement from work, I am sailing her back to her berth at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron once the 2022/23 northern cyclone season has finished. "Smidgen" is a strong structure hand laid GRP (no osmosis) Peter Cole design launched in 1989. An excellent small, but roomy sea boat with 50% ballast ratio, skeg-hung rudder, set up for single-handed sailing and maintained in optimal condition. She has wheel steering, Raymarine auto pilot, 25HP Bukh diesel, feathering 3 blade prop, 120 litres diesel / 120 litres water, both supplemented with additional 60 litres in drums, refrigeration, LPG (re-certified 2020 with 2 alarms/shut-off valve) oven and stove top, new furling No.1 headsail, UK Sails Tape Drive No.3 for driving into strong trade wind conditions, stay sail, bob stay and storm sail, new fully battened main, dingy on davits, 4 self tailing winches, dodger and sea anchor drogue. Smidgen has AIS, radar, 2 x Plotters, VHF radios (installed and hand held), EPIRB, 2 PLB's, electric anchor winch, sound and duplicate chain and anchors, etc, AYF safety gear (rated life lines, rated harness strong points, forward to aft luminescent tag lines, crew saver float line, and back up spares for most repairs at sea. Smidgen has recently passed an "out of water" survey, standing rigging replaced 2020, and is currently berthed at Royal Perth Yacht Club Annexe facility in Fremantle WA. Survey report and photos provided on request.
