Canary Islands or Madeira

My name is Kathi, I like to make the most out of this summer and get to some remote places. I sailed from the Netherlands (Medemblik) to Spain (Motril) from July 2021 to October 2022 on a Phantom 35, with my former partner, and for the most part, no autopilot. We lived pretty independently and after the English Channel, we went on anchor most of the time. We had our ups and downs, things broke (Geonav, fridge..) or did not work from the beginning (anchor winch, radar,..) or were lost on the way (dinghy paddle). We managed to get the boat in good shape and renewed most of the interior.

I still need to learn a lot about boat maintenance and sailing. I got a clue about what it means to take care of a boat. I got pretty good at sewing sails, preparing the boat to dock, and doing routine tasks (securing the boat, sail cover, coil lines, ..). I do like to cook and keep it clean. I did get seasick on our boat. Sea medicine helped a lot, but night shifts were the most challenging part, for my partner and me.

I passed my theoretical FB2 sailing licence in 2021 and want to take the practical part this autumn - I would be happy to do some manoeuvres.

I am currently in Vienna and I like to travel somewhere around Europe. I would very much enjoy a trip to the Canary Islands or Madeira. I got my open water licence in Austria and cannot wait to go diving in the sea!

  • Boat descriptionThe vessel is old but maintained. Nevertheless, she has seen better days. The motor is relatively new and reliable. The boat needs a refit, which we plan to do in Almeria (Spain). She is very sturdy and safe, but also heavy and slow. At present, it is a comfy liveaboard that needs some further attention in the next winter. The rigging and sails are old, so I sail it only on 80% and close to the shore. At the moment, there is no autopilot on board! Somebody has to be on the tiller while sailing. Currently on board: VHF EPIRB Lifesling Liferaft for 4 people 4 self-inflating lifevests Flares and signals
