Lagos, Portugal to Brighton, UK via Canarias, Cabo Verde and the Azores, exploring along the way!

Hi, I'm looking for one or two more crew to join me on what will be an 8 to 10 week trip. You will help out with watches, occasional spells in the galley and generally helping out around the boat. An appreciation of fresh fish will be a bonus!
We shall have daily tailored weather forecasts while at sea and there will plenty of learning opportunities for less experienced crew, as well as exploring some amazing islands, their people and unique cuisine.
Check out my boat Amelie in my profile and I shall be happy to share pics if you are interested.
I'm off in just a few weeks, so don't hang about!
Cheers
Peter

  • Boat descriptionAmelie was built in 1977 at the Amel shipyard near Lo a Rochelle and retains many of the original features. She has been laid up at Lagos, Portugal during the COVID epidemic during which a full survey was undertaken and a raft of upgrades were undertaken, including new prop bearings, engine rebuild, new 4 person 24 hr+ liferaft fitted, new main and starter batteries fitted, 'silent' wind generator and new charging control fitted, insulated backstay antenna and hf radio system fitted and all hull penetrations renewed. New main and furling genoa sails have also been made to pattern at the local sailmakers at Lagos. Full control including reefing is available from the cockpit, making Amelie extremely easy and safe to sail. There are 3 cabins, fore and aft each with twin crew berths and two skippers / watch berths in the main saloon. I have to say that one berth in the rear cabin is largely taken up with spare sails and so Amelie can only claim 5 comfortable berths. Fridge and galley with 2 rings and oven have all been updated in the past few years. Amelie completed several single-handed round trips from Lagos to the Azores in the years prior to the pandemic and has proved entirely seaworthy in sustained F9 conditions. A new navigation suite was fitted a few years ago to and this, together with two autopilots makes hands-off sailing a reality The time has now come to bring her back home to Brighton and she is now ready to go, via the Canaries, Cabo Verde and the Azores. I expect to take between 8 and 10 weeks altogether, allowing for exploration along the way and am looking for one or two crew members to join me for all or part of the trip. No contributions are expected or required apart from a readiness to help out in all departments on board, including a share of watch-keeping, cooking and cleaning duties. There will be ample opportunity for less experienced crew members to learn all aspects of sailing during the longer Atlantic passages. My preference is for crew with no specific dietary requirements and help with fishing will also be appreciated! I am not always on Amelie, but will be happy to share photos and chat about the details of the trip if you are interested. So welcome aboard!
