Sharing life on board

Hi there beautiful people,
I am Kate, skipper and right hand to my Capitan Mat.

We bought our first catamaran 1 year ago in Netherland and sailed down to Spain during last winter. After finishing the first wave of boat jobs, we sailed down to Portugal and here we are now off to begin a second wave of boat jobs in Algarve.

So, during the winter months, we will be mostly anchoring here in the Algarve and start our second season of jobs on boat. There are 3 lovely spots to be. Alvor, Formosa, Guadiana. We will probably spend winter in each of one a bit.
Therefore we are not offering any sailing in up coming months and we only will enjoy our home on calm waters, protected from waves and strong winds, working around. Sailing rarely and occasionally from one river to the other.

We are happy to welcome short term crew to share life aboard – but also look forward to forming lasting relations for some exciting undertaking in the future, such as passages to Madeira, cruising the Canaries and ultimately an Atlantic crossing in the upcoming years :) If you're looking for a partner at sea, let's get in touch!

If you'd like to get to know us & read some of our nomadic life stories in our newsletter or want to check out our webpage to discover the full vision of our project, let us know. We are happy to share it with you!

Talk to you soon and fair winds to those who sail :)

  • Boat descriptionOur Apache 41 is a catamaran with 4 cabins, where we can host up to 8 beautiful people. Each cabin comes with its own sink, space to store personal things and retreat for a rest. The boat has a fully equipped kitchen, where we like to experiment: baking our sourdough bread, prepare all kind of (fish) dishes or process whatever the surroundings have to offer in the current season. The sinks have 3 taps: fresh, drinking and salt water. The saloon provides little oil heater called Antarctic for colder days (now not in use, as the temperatures rise), desk & sofa and library, which will host you with interesting books of sailing topics but also exciting novels. We like to make music and therefore there is guitar on board and saucepans to drum :). Shared bathroom with shower (outdoor solar shower available as well) and toilet with everything to satisfy minimalistic hygiene needs. Two water tanks (120l each) and a rainwater collection system allow us to live and cruise off-grid for extended periods of time. Deck is roomy and gives enough space to comfortably move around, do yoga or just enjoy sunrises. Relax in cockpit or discover surroundings of our current stay. Back aft you'll find a wooden deck area, forward there are two nets to chill (or sleep in on warm dry night :) and plenty of space in between. Our cat is for now equipped with 2 diesel engines of 27hp which in future could be replaced for electric engines- yes we would like to have our blue surroundings nice clean. We are cruisers – and therefoer not the fastest. In nautical speed we talk about an average speed of approx. 5 knots. By installing a Victron based solar system (1300Wp/660Ah) we are super happy to be independent in terms of electricity – in fact we produce enough to run a electric water kettle (and might soon start to also cook electrically :) We provides some sailing clothing for passages (will be best if you have your own), epirb, life vests. Boat is equipped with fire extinguishers. Cat is accompanied with a dinghy, propelled by oars or by an electric outboard. Our lovely lady is 51 years old this year, and one should be expecting all but no shiny fancy boat. But we love her and she loves us, because we work every day to make it a nicer and cosier place to live :) In this sense, it's the perfect boat for those who want not only to sail and discover but also learn about boat work, maintenance and DIY re-fit & upgrades.
