Fiji Cruising
Hello all,
I'm looking for one, potentially two (established couple for bunking reasons) people to join me in Fiji for some local cruising! The ideal crew would be clean, organized, and eager to help contribute to the sailing, operation, and upkeep of the boat. This includes standing watch, cooking/cleaning, and helping with the routine maintenance and boat projects as they come up. I take a lot of pride in maintaining the boat in tip top shape and am looking for people who appreciate this and want to help contribute. The friendship and dynamic onboard is very important to me, so I'm hoping to find someone(s) roughly my age (31) who shares similar open-minded values. This is much more important to me than experience (I can sail the boat by myself) and I'm more than happy to teach the nautical side of things. The goal of this trip is to continue this adventure of a lifetime (started in San Diego in 2020) and do as much exploring both above and below the water as possible! The plan is to cruise the many island in Fiji and potentially hop back to Tonga for a few months. I love free diving/snorkling, hiking, diving, and exploring the local cities/towns but also enjoy just relaxing on the beach with drink in hand.
(Since I am a professional mariner, there can be no illegal substances onboard and everyone will be required to sign a waiver. Only open to non-smokers.)
Excellent Captain / Teacher!
When I began sailing on Sierra Wind from San Diego and eventually departing in Puerto Vallarta, I had little to absolutely no sailing experience. Eitan was an excellent sailing instructor, and patiently taught me everything there is to know about basic sailing. He also focused heavily on the safety aspects of sailing as well, and quizzed the crew on what to do if we needed to deploy the life raft, knowing all fire extinguisher and through - hull locations, how to properly execute a mayday call (as well as radio etiquette), the contents of the flare kit and ditch bags, and basic knots etc. Eitan is also a firefighter and paramedic, so I felt very safe on board if there were to ever be an emergency or if one of the crew members became sick. He knew exactly what to whenever there was a mechanical boat issue as well. The boat is always neat and clean, and the perfect amount of space for four people living aboard. Overall, our days and nights were filled with hiking, snorkeling, paddle surfing, whale watching, taco tasting, and the occasional half baked tin of brownies after a little too much wine :) A great experience and captain!
