French Polynesia Exploring the Tuamotu Islands

The boat is currently located in Moorea. I plan to head to the Tuamotus when I find appropriate crew. I plan the first stop to be Fakarava Atoll to check out the amazing diving and snorkeling there along with some kiteboarding. From there we will decide together which islands to visit next. I want my crew to have a say in the itinerary because it is shared experience after all. I need to be back in Tahiti in mid-late April to help a friend prepare for his next passage then back to the Tuamotu for a few more months.

The basic plan once in a place being centered around spending time kiteboarding, snorkeling, free diving, scuba diving, hiking, spearfishing, fishing, relaxing and just generally having a fun time.

I am looking for someone who is capable of standing watches (day and night), who enjoys being outdoors and is level headed in stressful situations. Offshore experience preferred but not required if you have other relevant experience.

My expectations are pretty basic, I expect crew to be responsible and to contribute positively to the journey. This includes but is not limited to standing watch (including night, shifts will be shorter at night for safety); sharing in the cooking duties, I really enjoy cooking and I hope you do too, and helping with basic chores around the boat (I don't expect you to take on projects as those are my responsibility.).

I also expect people to be able to pay their own way, meaning that you able to support yourself and be able contribute to the food, fuel and customs related expenses. Skill trade/ exchange is also encouraged since learning is a fun thing and benefits those involved in many ways. I do not expect crew to cover the ownership costs of the boat that is my responsibility as the owner. This ends up being an equal split of the day to day costs.

You will have your own bunk in the forward cabin with space for your things of course. The forward head is the day-use head and is therefore shared by all aboard.

  • Boat descriptionJamesby is a Amel Maramu, she is ketch rigged with roller furling sails. She is fitted with a life raft, epirb, and basic safety gear. She handles well and has a relatively gentle motion in seaway. She is a comfortable and safe vessel with leeboards for all bunks and a deep center cockpit. She has two Jabsco manual heads, two cabins and a nice spacious saloon. The instruments are current (2023/24) Raymarine units and located at the helm station. I have added a solar arch with 750-watts of solar which does a nice job keeping the batteries charged up. I have also installed a water maker which makes life aboard even more comfortable and allows for self sufficiency at anchor. Lithium batteries were also installed in 2022 and make sure that there is more than enough power available on board.
