The Solent and Beyond

Join me exploring the Solent and beyond, on a comfortable 34' deck saloon ketch which can be helmed from inside and out, is heated and has two double-berth cabins. I have tidal Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore theory certificates, and 3000+ sea miles. I'm aiming to build experience in UK waters, with a view to longer cruises on the south coast, Channel Islands and France (having explored the Cherbourg Peninsula this July). Based in Portsmouth Harbour, I'm intending to sail 10 months a year, mainly 1- and 2-day trips, with longer itineraries from time to time. I've built a small network of crew over the past year to work towards these goals, We've had a lot of fun and I want to extend the network to increase the sailing opportunities. Up to 3 can sail together on multi-day trips (I sleep in the saloon) and more on day trips. Based in Portsmouth Harbour, I'm intending to sail 10 months of the year, mainly 1- and 2-day trips, with occasional longer itineraries. I can provide lifejackets, and would ask that potential crew contribute to any meals onshore, fuel and marina fees.

Skipper John

5

John is an excellent skipper and is extremely patient, knowledgeable and calm. He was not at all put out by my lack of knowledge and experience (after not having sailed for over a year and forgotten most things). He is extremely generous, supplying snacks and advice as well as providing all for a smooth sail and berth . He does not bark commands, is not ego driven, and is a pleasant person both to talk to and sail with. I have learnt a lot since sailing with him and different crew on his boat but the learning was organic and low pressure. So far I have had two great sails the second being really exciting with wind speeds of 50 and heeling for a large part of the journey on the way back we had an amazing Red Arrow display over our heads as we headed back to Portsmouth. For me it was a really memorable and fantastic experience . We stayed in two lovely marinas near the Solent . My next sail will be commencing shortly and I am really excited to be part of his rolling rota of crew. I can not recommend highly enough, John both as a skipper and person.
