The Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel in support of oil and gas operations, ensuring compliance with all maritime and industry-specific regulations. The role demands a high level of leadership, technical knowledge, and the ability to manage the vessel's crew while coordinating with offshore operations, ensuring the vessel operates in a safe and cost-effective manner in a challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Navigation and Vessel Operations:
Safely navigate and operate the vessel to and from oil platforms, offshore rigs, and other locations.
Plan and execute voyages with attention to weather, tides, and operational schedules.
Ensure adherence to safety standards and vessel performance during offshore operations.
Monitor and maintain the vessel’s navigational and communication systems.
Safety Management and Compliance:
Lead the implementation of safety protocols on board, including emergency preparedness and response plans.
Oversee compliance with local, international maritime regulations, and oil and gas industry-specific guidelines.
Conduct safety drills, including evacuation procedures and spill response.
Ensure the vessel is maintained in line with certification and regulatory standards.
Crew Leadership and Management:
Lead and manage the vessel’s crew, ensuring they are fully trained and compliant with industry standards and safety regulations.
Supervise crew performance, provide feedback, and ensure effective delegation of responsibilities.
Maintain effective communication with offshore project managers and ground teams to ensure smooth operations.
Operational Coordination:
Work closely with oil and gas operations teams to transport crew, equipment, supplies, and materials between offshore platforms and onshore facilities.
Coordinate the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling and storage in compliance with safety and environmental protocols.
Act as the primary point of contact for offshore logistics and scheduling.
Maintenance and Technical Oversight:
Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of the vessel, ensuring all systems and equipment are functioning correctly.
Manage routine inspections and audits to maintain vessel certifications and operational standards.
Work with engineers and deck officers to troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare and submit detailed voyage reports, including fuel consumption, operational performance, and any incidents.
Ensure logbooks are maintained and accurate, including safety drills, equipment checks, and crew activities.
Report any operational or safety concerns to senior management.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s License (appropriate to the vessel and its operations).
STCW Certification (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping).
Experience operating vessels in oil and gas environments, particularly offshore.
Minimum of [X] years of experience as Captain or Officer on offshore vessels (e.g., OSVs, PSV, AHTS).
Proven experience in offshore support operations, including logistics and crew transport.
Strong knowledge of oil and gas industry safety standards and offshore operations.

Familiarity with oil spill response procedures.
