Crew Needed for Adventurous Coastal Cruise From Tampa to Key Largo

I plan to sail my Lightning class dinghy from Tampa Bay to Key Largo in the Spring of 2020. The trip promises to be an adventure. Plans include primitive camping on small islands and dodging bad weather by hiding behind the same islands.

I expect the trip to take 4 to 8 days depending on the winds and weather.

If you like to "rough-it" and get your hands dirty and your face wet, then this trip will not let you down.

You will need to be extremely fit and agile. Sailing a small open boat off the coast of Florida can be tough during our windy Spring season.

  • Boat descriptionMy boat is a 1975 Nichols Lightning. I found it in a neighbors backyard and I have spent the last year fixing it, strengthening it, and making it easy to sail single-handed. I've added extra flotation, righting lines, a cassette-style rudder, a jib down-haul, and two reefs to the mainsail. I probably should through-bolt the deck to hull joint. She isn't pretty but I think she is ready to sail from Tampa to Key Largo.
