volunteer crew to sail from Panama to Texas, US
Hello
My wife and I bought Lady Hawke three years ago in Curacao and then sailed her to Panama. We are now want to bring her back to the US.
She is a ketch rigged 71ft (LOA) Formosa 68. She draws 5.5ft with the keel up and 12ft with the keel down. Her beam is 17ft and her main mast is 103ft tall.
She's powered by a 220 hp Cummins turbo diesel, equipped with a 5kW diesel generator, a full set of sails, all new B&G instruments (AIS, radar, chart plotter, VHF radio), and Starlink. For safety we have one main category I EPIRB, two Res-Q-Link 400 Personal Locator Beacons, 6 life vests, 2 throw rings, lifelines, and a newly certified 8-person life raft.
Lady Hawke is big but not a "superyachet". She has everything you need to make a safe and comfortable voyage. Her center cockpit and heavy displacement hull make her a comfortable and stable ride.
After 10 yrs of minimal care by her previous owner, we are now giving her the love she deserves and are planning on bringing her back to her full beauty. She is already beautiful, but our efforts have been focused on functionality not luxury. We, e.g. did not repair the air conditioning but invested in a new and properly sized anchor and electronics. We did not give her new topside paint but hauled her out, replaced thru-hull fittings and seacocks, applied new bottom paint, installed new zincs, etc. You get the picture: our priority was to make her safe, sound, and sailable.
She is currently on the Caribbean side of Panama and we are planning on sailing her to Galveston, TX in September. This trip should take anywhere between 8 and 14 days, depending on weather conditions.
I will be the captain. I have over 50 years experience sailing, delivering, building, restoring, outfitting, and surveying boats.
We are looking for 2 people to join us on this trip. This will be a non-stop passage to Galveston. We will share watch and other daily activities such as cleaning, food prep, deck check, weather & route monitoring (supervised if necessary), etc. We will pay for food while on the trip, provide you with a bunk and or guest cabin, and offer an "once in a lifetime opportunity". You are responsible for any personal extras as well your transportation to the boat and from Texas to your next destination. You must also be able to legally enter Panama and the US.
