Mystic to New London

I’m taking an O’Day 34 from its mooring ball in Mystic near Mason’s Island to its slip at the Navy base MWR Marina in New London. I can single hand it but would prefer to have a fellow shipmate. Crew member should be comfortable at the helm, basic Navigation with preset waypoints on INavX, and be able to help trim the sails. Genoa is on a roller furling.

I have a dinghy and almost new Tohatsu outboard. The only extra adult size life jackets are the basic orange style we wore as kids, so if you have an inflatable, please bring it.

If you have any questions, please reach out and we can coordinate a time to talk.

A quick SWAG for distance is about 14 nm for the trip so about 3 hours +/-. Route is out of Mystic harbor, west to the Thames Rivet, upstream passing under the lift bridge and Interstate bridges and then up river to the marina on the East bank of the river.

I have a vehicle locally, it would be nice to have someone with a vehicle to help shuttle us back to Mystic to avoid Lyft fees. I can reimburse for fuel to get to and from the boat within reason.

I’m looking to move it at the first opportunity. The boat is new to me and I’m continuing to prep it now. I just got the sails onboard.

I apologize for the short notice and thanks for the interest.

Dave

  • Boat descriptionI’m taking my Baltic 38 to Hamburg in June. It is a true racing/cruising hybrid. The rigging reflects its racing prowess and the interior its cruising desirability. She has a substantial suite of excellent sails. Instruments include a wind package, SOG, GPS , Auto-pilot, depth, and MFD’s. I will be installing and upgrading this spring. It will have SAT comms and/or HF. It has EPIRB’s, emergency and first aide supplies, tools, spare mechanical components, fluids, belts and impellers; a jump pack, a backup predator inverter generator, outboard, dinghy and life raft. With a 7’2” draft she is stable in the seaway and has an 8.9 knot hull speed. There is an aft Captain’s cabin that sleeps two, a private forward V-birth that sleeps two, plus a single and a double settee in the salon. There is a single head/shower aft in the starboard side. I will go to the boat in April and start prepping it for the transit. I will haul it out near Annapolis so I can repaint the hull, check the zincs and through hulls. I will then go bow to stern to check all the onboard systems The boat is already in excellent condition but will apply my due diligence. Weather of course will determine the departure date and length of our trip but I’m shooting for the first half of June to avoid the hurricane season. The current plan is to hop to Bermuda, then Azores, and then the continent. This specific boat was built in Finland based upon the hull number. I will be ‘parking‘ the boat with friends before returning stateside.

I really enjoyed this adventure. I helped David get his sailboat through New York City and across the bay to Atlantic Highlands. David is a good communicator and easy to work with.
