Need one more ASASP for San Diego down Baja and Beyond...
Cruising to Central America – departing San Diego soon
We are two, looking for one experienced sailor to join us from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
The first leg is 700 nautical miles long and may take approximately two weeks. Open to a hard worker who wants to continue beyond Baja afterward.
Best would be to connect with a mate who enjoy both sailing, as well as the beauty of exploring nature at anchorages along the way, and to take in the local flavor. Especially nice are the Mexican national park areas between Cabo and La Paz that come next. Ideally, I am hoping to find someone eager to go a longer distance, continuing farther south to Central America and possibly all the way through the Canal to the Caribbean port cities of Colombia. Everything is flexible.
What is most desirable in a potential mate...
> Easygoing, can remain calm
> Strength and stamina: reasonably fit.
> Prior offshore/coastal sailing experience
> Mechanical abilities a plus
Undesirable for us would be...
> A daily or heavy drinker
> A cigarette/cigar smoker
> A MAGA/Trump supporter
I will captain, but I do not see this as a typical crew situation. It will be our shared adventure, with me making final calls when necessary. We will rotate watches and share cooking, maintenance, and cleaning duties. Everyone shall have a voice in route planning and other daily decisions. We will share generally low expenses, split three ways.
Crew members can also reap passage-making experience, nautical miles toward possible certifications, offshore navigation confidence building, while hopefully having the time of their lives.
I’d hope we will all enjoy the journey as well as our destinations — including stops at a couple of populated areas, beachcombing, diving, fishing, etc., when appropriate.
I speak Spanish with near-native fluency and would be happy to help you better yours along the way. Being a former Latin American Studies scholar and educator, that'd be easy if you're willing to practice!
No guaranteed dates of arrival, but I'd like to keep the voyage going without too many unplanned interruptions. When I was offered early retirement and left my career, I swore off worry, hurry, and fury, so I’m trying hard to abide by that.
Please contact me in a short message, including:
>Your sailing experience
>Other useful skills (mechanical, navigation, cooking, etc.)
> A little about yourself as an individual. What are you like?
> Why this trip excites you. What do you most hope to do?
All serious inquiries will be replied to.
Thanks for your interest.
