Watch: Drift Theory Charters

Captain - Temporary / Seasonal - $5000 - Mexico

A recently refitted Beneteau 48 running small-group sailing voyages in the Sea of Cortez is looking for a seasonal captain for a 6 month charter season. The vessel has 4 berths, accommodates up to 6 guests at a time, three week-long trips a month, December through May. You'd captain, plan passages, run the boat, and shape the experience — the sailing, the anchorages, the activites, the pace.

The boat is set up for crewed charters with modern amenities. Voyages lean into exploration, cultural immersion, and eating well — a slower, more intentional way to be at sea.

Who we're looking for:
Professional sailing experience, comfortable skippering a 48' monohull with guests
Valid captain's license (Mexican or internationally recognized / validated for Mexico)
Mexican legal standing to work — citizenship, residency, or a valid work permit (non-negotiable)
STCW and current first aid/medical
Spanish + English

  • Boat descriptionA comfortable, capable offshore cruising yacht with four cabins and four heads. She has recently completed an extended offshore voyage from the East Coast of the US through the Bahamas, San Blas Islands and Panama Canal, then up the Pacific Coast to Southern California. She sails beautifully, points well and has proven herself as a solid offshore cruiser. The boat underwent an extensive refit in 2024 and 2025 and is set up for comfortable, self sufficient cruising. She carries 1,900W of solar with a 1,780Ah lithium battery bank, watermaker, Starlink, new electronics, new autopilot computer and motor, new mainsail and running rigging. Auxiliary power comes from an 80hp Yanmar 4JH80. Typical cruising speed under power is around 7.2 knots. The cockpit is spacious with twin helms, electric primary winches, Bimini and dodger, large cockpit table and an electric fold down transom that creates a large swim platform. Most sail controls are led aft, making her easy to manage with a small crew. Ground tackle includes a 73 lb Rocna primary anchor with more than 150 ft of chain and a Lewmar electric windlass. A new 11 ft AB hard bottom RIB with 15hp Yamaha outboard is carried aboard for getting ashore and exploring anchorages. We also carry fishing, snorkeling and dive equipment. Safety: Coast Guard documented and recently Coast Guard inspected. Safety equipment includes a new liferaft, current EPIRB, Type II PFDs, jacklines, six harnesses and tethers, fire extinguishers, flares, first aid equipment, bosun’s chair, self climbers, emergency bungs and other offshore safety equipment. She also carries an extensive onboard tool kit and cruising spares for engine, electrical, rigging, sail, fiberglass, dinghy and general repairs. Overall, she is set up as a comfortable, practical offshore cruising boat rather than a marina yacht. Crew should be comfortable living aboard, sailing offshore, helping with watches, anchoring, tender operations and the normal realities of life at sea.
