Crew wanted sailing from Hamilton Island to Sydney departing 18 October
Here are the details about one of the greatest coastal voyages in Australia (and possibly the whole world) !
We plan to depart Hamilton Island around October 18 and be in Sydney 3 weeks later. We will stop at major ports of call along the way that could include Whitsunday Islands, Percy Island, Great Kepple Island, Lady Musgrave Island, Bundaberg, Fraser Island, Southport & Coffs Harbour. There is not enough time to visit all of these ports so the decision to break the journey will be made en route depending on prevailing weather & the time available in our schedule.
You can read about the fun by reading an article that was written by a previous participant. If you email me I will send you the article.
This is not a paid job. There is a once only contribution to the boat of $1,400.00 each. This does not really cover anything regarding the trip, you could look at it as “room rent”, if you like, but if you divide $1,400 by (say) 20 days (the expected duration of the voyage including a couple of days in the Whitsundays at the conclusion to “clean up” (as described below) you get around the $75 (advertised cost per day) and this is about half the cost and exactly the same distance & experience offered by Coral Trekker for coastal passages. All other expenses including food, fuel and marina fees etc. will be “shared” and in previous years, the total for the whole holiday (including the initial $1,400) has amounted to around $2,000 per person.
There will be about 7 in the crew, so we will have 3 watches (2 persons) of 3 hours duration allowing for a decent period of relaxation when not on deck.
Inclusion in the crew, will allow participants to gain valuable “sea time” which will not only be recognised by the Australian Yachting Federation but also count towards the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) experience required for commercial marine qualifications.
