Get involved
After many successful expeditions on [url blocked] we are now joining forces with a few groups who run projects in Vanuatu and the Temotu province in the eastern Solomon Is.
We have the opportunity to use the 22m steel expedition yacht Manawanui ( bigger than Dona Catharina) The larger vessel is necessary as this time we want to give back to our many friends in these Islands.
The extra space will be used to deliver equipment that is needed to make our friends more resilient towards more frequent cyclones, changing climate and ocean temperatures and the resulting outbreaks of food shortages and injuries and disease. The last cyclone season has clearly shown that there is a need .
Through our island contacts and through previous experiences we have received some requests and have concrete ideas what projects would be appreciated.
But we still need more help from interested individuals, organisations or NGOs to make this new approach towards our expeditions as successful as the previous expeditions have been.
Yes, we are looking for people who will sail with us, but you must be able offer your expertise towards our projects. You could be a medical doctor, a media wiz, a trades person, or just a person who sees an opportunity to use this voyage as an platform to advance your own humanitarian project idea. Talk to us. We encourage anyone who not only has an adventurous spirit, but has a Big Heart ( that happens to be the translation of Manawanui ) and also can use their personal networking skills to help towards the financial side of this project. We will set sail in August 25 from Opua in New Zealand and plan to return Opua in November of the same year. We urge you us now, whilst we are still in the planing stage.
There is no need for any sailing skills. But there will be plenty of ocean sailing and for those who want to learn more about this aspect of our journey ,there is the chance to not only learn about the European way of navigating, but also about the Polynesian way finding techniques.
