Cost sharing - Friends Crew & Helpers - Experienced or Not

2024 Update - We are back on the water and ready for sailing on into 2023. Currently Near Krabi and Phuket. Last season went well with Trips to explore remote Islands and Langkawi. Several old friends and three new crew joined from Crewbay sailing to Phuket, Phang Gna Bay, Krabi, Lanta and the Butangs. Plans for this year are similar but other longer passages may be possible with good crew.

THE MAIN ADVERT

I am looking for cost sharing crew to help with sailing as well as some routine maintenance while we cruise some of the quieter and unexplored spots on west coast Thailand. Crew with some experience are very welcome but more important is willingness and a keen desire to learn and take part being be fully involved and active in the running and upkeep of the vessel. Ideally I would like to form a group of regular friends and crew to prepare for those longer and more adventurous cruises but people will also be welcome for shorter visits.

The sailing season – This really starts here from October to April once the NE Monsoon kicks in. It is possible to sail all year round but the weather between these times becomes stormy with SW swells.

Cruising Plans - We will start by cruising the west coast of Thailand and depending on crew we hope to sail further afield with possible destinations to Sumatra, Mauritius, Madagascar, Anambas. We will be continuing to sail in the more adventurous, interesting and off the beaten track spots in South East Asia. We aim to find those out of the way places and interact with the local culture as much as possible, avoiding those over crowded tourist spots.

Maintenance – I would be delighted to have willing and helpful people joining me to help sail the boat and discover those out of the way places. An integral part of sailing involves assisting when necessary with any of the regular maintenance tasks. Mainly all that should need to be done is routine and possibly some painting and varnishing.

Costs -You will have to share costs usually on a kitty system. This will depend on the length of your trip and what we do. Normally this would include food, fuel, local fees and other consumable items including routine repair consumables.

We are not for everyone - especially if you are a strict vegetarian or only like western food, prefer visiting tourist resorts, really need to be plugged into your smart phone continually or if you are a very tight budget, you probably will not be happy. For example we expect to buy and eat the best quality fresh food available but of course this is not as expensive as Europe and we are not extravagant either.

Our first time sailing couldn´t have been better! Mark is as experienced as it gets and the Meniscus of Gweek is oldschool beauty. There's plenty to do and we learned a lot. Luckily, Mark is a patient teacher and on top of that a fantastic chef. If you have the chance to go sailing on board the Meniscus, please tell the Gremlins we said hi!
