Southern Portugal to Panama

Hi there!

The last two summers I was sailing Fitz Roy a HR36 roughly 5000 nautical miles zigzag trough the Mediterranean. This January I will continue from Portugal towards the Canaries, Cape Verdes and across the Atlantic to either Suriname or the Caribbean. Ending my trip for the hurricane season somewhere in the western Caribbean in May/June 2020.

In the past I had several crew on board, mostly friends and family and one person from Crewbay so far, wich was a lovely experience. We where mostly 4 which is the upper limit. For the Atlantic crossing and onwards I will take 2 extra people on board for a total of 3 (including myself). This has proven to be optimal for the size of the boat and comfort/living space.
As there are so many applications for the Atlantic crossing and being only 3 crew I am looking for people with prior experience on this leg. Please do not apply as a couple.

I'm a friendly and experienced sailor that likes to be around other fun and enthusiastic people. I like to keep the boat tidy and take care of the ship and its equipment. I want to use this platform to get in touch with potential crew that I actually see more as friends and sailing voyaging enthusiasts then as crew. I prefer people roughly my age, mid twenty to mid thirty. I'm currently home in Switzerland and will be in Portugal to do some work in November.. I would prefer if we could somehow meet before departing.

I am not looking for professional crew and am not paying for travel from/to the boat. Depending on your financial situation I expect some payment towards boat maintenance and insurance.

If you are up for sailing longer distances and visiting beautiful places in Europe, Africa and the Americas give me a shout. Let's talk about adventures!

Cheers, Alex

  • Boat descriptionFitz Roy is a 36 foot Hallberg Rassy from 1992 she is carefully and personally equipped by myself. She has an overhauled 60hp Volvo Engine, new sails and has received a new teak deck last summer. The boat is registered under Swiss flag and has all the safety equipment required by the thorough government of a landlocked country :-) EPIRB, Life raft, VHF and SSB Radio with Email capabilities, a Sat Phone, Flares, AIS Transponder, Radar, Solar panels, all new electrics and instruments a new Thruster and a dinghy with outboard engine. The boat is a feel good - feel safe centre cockpit, with furling sails in mast. It is extremely well built, nicely balanced and very comfortable to travel on. Since it is not super big, sail handling is easy enough for smaller people as well. There are two bedrooms and two bunks in the salon. We normally travel with no more then 4 people on board. There's a state of the art nav station, a full galley with fridge and one bathroom with shower (there’s even hot water on Sundays).
