Multihull: UK to Sweden
Hello!
Crew needed to join in Dover Harbour, UK by Wednesday 30th April 2025.
All sailing finishes when we arrive in Sweden... approximately the 10th May.
The passage over the North Sea to the Elbe River, through the Kiel Canal, a visit to Fyn in Denmark, and then over to the South coast of Sweden not far from Karlskrona.
Join for mile-building, or as an experiment for you to see if you get sea-sick, or just a nice place to be for a week or two for holidays.
=== The project ===
I've been using a few different crew finding websites for years now, Crew-bay is a good one though. I've owned a number of boats and have sailed with many, many different people.
So, why do I look for crew to join my sailing? Firstly, it seems to me that owning a boat is a big responsibility, and a lot of materials and work have gone in to the making of the boat - so it is only right to then share it with others. As I see it everybody on the planet can't own their own sailing boat. Secondly, the idea is to have a boating experience available for everyone. I need to know how to manage a project, and create the conditions where people can enjoy and contribute with ease. In future I intend to have larger yachts capable of more extensive cruising as well as moving cargo under sail, and I'll need crew then too. This is all part of building that dream, and creating my contact network of like-minded people.
=== The Skipper / Captain ===
I am a RYA yachtmaster, trained in the Isle of White and in the Solent in the UK. I've crossed the Atlantic 22 times, and I work on sailing boats professionally. Usually on racing mono-hulls and multi-hulls as engineer or delivery and race crew. I have logged two hundred thousand miles sailed, or a bit more by now. The winter of 2023 - 24 I sailed on Pen Duick VI on all legs of the Ocean Globe Race around the world.
I'm Swedish and aged 38. My languages are English, Swedish, and French. Also a basic understanding in Spanish and German.
=== The yacht ===
This is a multi-hull (trimaran) of 39 foot over all - it's a Kelsall 39 design. Comfortable living for 6 people.
It is an ocean going vessel that has completed two transatlantic passages, but a lot of other sorties to the Azores, Canaries, to Eastern Europe etc. The yacht is perfect for the shallow water areas, and the best anchorages and little hide-away harbours are thus accessible.
There is a double cabin aft, and a double cabin forward. The main saloon has sleeping places for four people.
No shower, fridge or luxury on board. It's a simple boat. 220V and 12 volt electricity, only source of electricity is solar panels. Mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets and towels etc. available.
=== The Conditions ===
This is a good trip for anyone wanting to learn more about sailing, and simply sail more miles. Walking, swimming and enjoying the good life as well of course.
There is no need to have previous sailing experience, and I'm open to individuals and couples and people of all ages.
We run shared expenses on board, and it is approximately €12 per day per person. All included food, harbours, marinas, fuel etc it may come to a little more. It's supposed to be possible for anyone on any budget to come sailing! I pay for all materials and maintenance of the boat. Generally ports and harbours are very cheap, so the expenses will never be high. As said before about €12 per day is a good estimate and we will try to do it cheaper.
I should say that food is preferred vegetarian. Also, alcohol and cigarettes and such things in moderation or even better not at all please!
Hope to hear from you, and maybe even see you on board soon!
