Mediterranean to Atlantic Crossing

Hi, I am looking for one or two crew to enjoy cruising with me. Your experience is not too important as I can sail the boat myself. But I like to have crew. I am an experienced good captain who wants to have a nice time. I don’t yell. The boat is relatively small at 34 feet. But Lisken is a wonderful boat with all the off shore safety gear. Sailing is easy with the wind vane steering! It’s close living, so I need crew that are adventurous, love to travel, easy going, pitch in when needed and don’t sweat the small stuff. You need to be happy where you are and not be in a hurry. Daily plans often change but longer term progress is made. Stuck in harbour for 6 days due to storms? That happens. Wow! Great Sunset again! Can you slow down into a cruising lifestyle?

Ideally crew has time to be on board for longer periods. I would be great if crew could share expenses like: Marina fees, fuel and food. I like to go out to eat at new places. It’s nice to be at a marina when available to have easy access to town, grocery etc.

I am a retired engineer. I am 65 and in good shape. I am happily married. I have two kids in their 20s. In February I skied the Birkiebiener a 56 km cross country ski race for my 19th time. I worked as a paramedic in the past and have a very good first aid kit on board. I am a social drinker and non smoker.
Usually cooking on board is shared. I eat most foods but try to limit carbs.

Plans for 2019:
10 April to 1 June: Motored Europe Canals through the Rhine and Rhone to the mediterranean. We did 402 Locks!

1 June to 21 June. Cruising the Med. France, Corsica, Italy. I have a friend with me, but could take one more crew.

21 June to 12 July: Cruising Italy. To Greece?

12 July to 22 July: I will go to Norway to sail on Statsraad Lehmkul Tall Ship for a week. So the boat will be at a marina for a week. 2 Crew could stay aboard.

21 July to October. More cruising the Med then head west to Gibraltar arriving about August? . Need 2 crew. It is 1300 miles from Greece to Gibraltar. There will be multi day passages but we should have time to stop at wonderful places.

November. Provision for 7 day passage to Canary Islands. Make passage 700 miles. Provision for next leg. Need 2 crew.

7 November to 1 December. Do Atlantic Crossing to Caribbean. Possibly through Cape Verde. Need 2 Crew

1 December to 1 May 2020. Sail the Caribbean. Probably up to BVI and then in spring down to Trinidad to leave boat for the summer hurricane season. Need 2 crew.

Older Chartering, Crewing, Crewbay experience

In April 2015 I helped an older couple deliver a 46 ft Sloop from St Thomas to Trinidad 500 miles . In the fall of 2014 I sailed 5000 miles, as Mate on 60 ft Jongert Ketch from Corfu Greece to the Caribbean. These were Crewbay opportunities. In the past I sailed for 6 months on a Square Rigged Ship and worked for a summer in Alaska on a Salmon Troller. I have sailed a lot on Lake Superior. I have been chartering sail boats and have done 3 deliveries. I have sailed in Turkey, Italy, Greece and Caribbean. I have crossed the Atlantic 4 times. I am very mechanically inclined and a easy going guy who is good in an emergency. I have been an ASA Instructor thru Bareboat ASA104 and Navigation ASA105. I was recognized by ASA as Outstanding Instructor in 2015. I have a USCG Captains License OUPV Near Coastal.

  • Boat descriptionLisken is a 1992 Pacific Seacraft 34 ft. The past owner spared no expense fixing her up for a single handed circumnavigation. Lucky for me, he didnt get far and abandoned the trip fall of 2014. I bought her spring of 2015 on Lake Ontario in Canada with 6 new cruising Sails, new Furuno electronics, new windlass, new rigging, new commercial autopilot, Water Maker, Monitor Wind Vane, new upholstery, upgraded frigiboat refrigerator, variable pitch Propeller, new outboard for Dingy, life raft, Jordan series rouge, mast steps etc. I bought new anchors and flexible solar panels for her. In 2016 I replaced the engine with a new Yanmar. Lisken is a sweet boat! She is made for offshore. She performs great when the wind gets up. North Atlantic Crossing was 13 days. Novascotia to Ireland. She was designed by Bill Crealock a famous yacht designer. I am keeping her in excellent condition.
