Gosport to Cowes

Marihona has just completed an enjoyable series of legs from the Tyne to Portsmouth.
Next stops will be Cowes, continuing to Newport, where she will pause for a few days, then S.Brittany for a winter repaint and varnish.
Calling at various harbours en-route depending on weather.
Very well found boat with experienced and good-humoured skipper. Check out our profile pages for detailed info.
No bashing into unpleasant weather, this trip has many interesting ports of refuge.
Looking for one or two people, for legs or the whole trip.

Gaff rig time is welcome but not vital if you are keen to pick it up.

  • Boat descriptionBeautiful fast and seakindly, 12 ton gaff cutter. Built Norway 1957, designed by Atkin of Connecticut (famous for Suhaili). Plenty of deck space, and a charming wood and varnish ambience below. Present ownership 5 years, a well travelled cruising yacht. New Beta 43 engine in 2019 Lots of rigging to play with, choice of sails, etc. She's a sister to Vixen which has circumnavigated twice. Taylors paraffin cooker, Baby Blake heads, 4 berths, lots of tools and equipment. Powerful diesel heater. Lifejackets, tethers, several handheld VHF's, GPS's, PLB, fixed VHF and plotter, iPad with Navionics plotter installed, baro's, log and sounder, loudhailer, Navtex, fogsignals, all lights, lifebuoys, flares and smoke, Ocean Safety 4-man liferaft (self-launching), 1st aid kit, large foam fire estinguishers, spotlamp, torches. Echomax X-band RTE. Spare warm clothing, ship's library ..and loud ghetto blaster. Choice of anchors, various pumps, inflatable dinghy, boathooks etc all the usual cruising gear and more. 3 new batteries, solar panel. Navigation is by GPS and paper charts, proper chartwork and log will be followed and fixes will be plotted regularly. Regular watch system at sea. All charts and up to date Almanacs and pilots on board. Plenty of tools and spares on board. Inflatable dinghy, snorkelling gear. Owner/skipper Jerry is lighthearted and friendly, the opposite of Captain Bligh, widely experienced on all sorts of vessels over decades. Proper induction and safety briefings will be given, and I will listen to crew suggestions to improve our enjoyment or safety..or just to tweak the sheets to get another 0.5 knots..
