Captain - Permanent - Min exp 4 years - General (Europe)

I will shortly be posting this:
Do you want to climb aboard a 68 foot schooner with no fixed itinerary except that of visiting and spending time in some of the world’s most fascinating places?
Well, hopefully the virus will pass soon and we will be left to go back to our previous lives. But perhaps some will be thinking differently about what they actually want to do, and that’s what I want to say here.
For many who have the desire to go to sea the attractions are obvious – the travel, the experiences, the new friendships and the challenge. Some may want to build up miles for a new qualification, others may be a couple who just want to spend their time at sea and leave shore-based society to get on with it.
I have a well found schooner which I want to set in motion. For too many years now this boat, built in Malaysia in the late eighties, has been doing the summer tourist trade, day charters etc, in southern Europe. It’s time to get the boat out there, but I can’t do it alone. A crew of two is fine for a 6 hour jolly, but we need some serious and enthusiastic people to man the boat.
If I were rich, I would hire a professional crew. But last year was a disaster as the channel leading to our Marina wasn’t dredged on schedule, and we could only get out –and in – on high tides. That wrecked the schedule and the booking service. This year it’s been COVID 19. So I need to find people who have a little money who will pay to be on board and experience what I hope will be some brilliant cruising.
The vessel has sailed in the south China sea, made passage to the Seychelles via Sri Lanka, spent 7 years in the med, done the ARC in 95, and another reason I need your help is because I’m not getting any younger (damn boat is going to outlive me!)
One key issue is the skipper. That’s right, I need a skipper because I won’t be aboard all the time, and the boat needs to able to move anytime. So a younger man than me with a good background in blue water sailing is essential. It may be that he’s married and his wife is part of the team. I don’t know. You never know anything till you stick your hand up and get noticed.
So to sum up:
I’m looking for 4 or 5 people who would like to join. Age is not critical. Nationality – you should definitely have one…..! Should be an English speaker. No smoking, no drugs. Really don’t want to visit the jails in Panama. Qualifications essential – those who are serious will have some. Special skills such as the ability to fix things are desirable, as is a working knowledge of the galley. Languages an asset. And you need to need prepared to pay into the kitty on a daily basis. In that way we can bunker, pay the skipper, eat and enjoy ourselves.
It maybe that there’s someone out there who would like to become an associate because he has a purpose – making a film, for example. Visiting specific dive spots. He would then be planning the route. But the rest of the crew would be as necessary as ever.
I am pushing this out on Crewbay before getting into other sites and our social media sites. If you wish to contact me with a resume and references where available then please do.
I look forward to meeting some of you.
