Baja then west. Come join us!

UPDATE (10/12): We are looking for crew that is flexible to leave Los Angeles sometime in mid-November and cruise down to Mexico and the Sea of Cortez until mid-January. We will not be heading back to the US at that time, so crew will need to be able to get back to the US on their own or have other plans for the next chapter of their adventure. Thank you!

Hello, we are Jen and Luke! We purchased our 38' Lagoon 380 Infinity (2018) catamaran earlier this year and have been busy preparing it for extended cruising. We are looking for one or two crew join us for upcoming passages down the west coast and crossing the pacific next spring.

About us:
We are both in our early 40s and are very quirky, energetic, and fun. We are (mostly) vegetarians, very politically liberal, VERY environmentally conscious. (We are in the process of an all electric conversion). We know we will have fun, be safe, and learn a lot in the process.

Luke is an experienced sailor and has spent many months at sea in the southern ocean as a communications officer doing marine conservation. He works in technology on hardware and software projects and has a startup in healthcare. He will be working as the internet allows between passages, (but not stressing about it. :) He is experienced with mechanical and electrical systems and handy with repairs.

Jen is newer to sailing and loving it, taking the initiative to ensure the boat is organized, stocked, safe, legal, comfy. She has a background in corporate and non-profit law and most recently technology. She has been busy researching everything about our potential destinations and routes along the way.

You:
You are of similar mind and temperament. A progressive, feminist that knows Black Lives Matter. You care about the environment and limiting our impact on the earth and ocean. You are looking to learn and also teach. You are self motivated and willing to share in the responsibilities of being on watch (sometimes alone), caring for your fellow crew and the boat. Experience is welcome- willingness to take direction and ask for help is great, too.

Destinations:
Our itinerary will need to stay flexible as the Pandemic continues to impact borders and ports. The current plan is to head south sometime in November and explore the coast of Baja California and Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), possibly connecting with other cruisers along the way. After that, we will likely head west across the Pacific towards Hong Kong and Thailand in early spring with lots of exploration along the way.

Expenses:
Covering the cost of your food is most of what we are asking - along with any expenses you personally incur. Our primary focus is finding folks who we get along with and want to travel with for a while.

Expectations:
Equal share in keeping watch and helping keep the boat clean. We won't ask you to do anything we wouldn't do. Maintenance and other repair work is not your responsibility, but any help is welcome. We have limited communications while away from shore, mostly used for weather, but voice and slow shared email is available. (we are working on getting broadband, but it will probably be next year). Otherwise, have fun and relax! Our destinations and schedule are flexible and you will have a say in what we do.

Culture:
We are pretty easy going as long as everyone is respectful of others and contributing a fair share. Shared meals will likely be a thing at least a couple days a week if it makes everyone happy, more or less depending on preferences. We are ok with meat, but prefer it not be raw. Cold storage is currently limited and there's no freezer. We may add more capacity if time allows, but it's best to plan on "dry camping" food with some refrigeration.
We are not into fishing on the boat - we love fish, but the oceans are dying and we believe there's no such thing as sustainable seafood. That said, we won't judge you for eating whatever you want as long as it's not excessively cruel or endangered. (We will probably have some emergency spam onboard).

Thanks for reading - We look forward to hearing from you!

  • Boat descriptionWe have a 2018 Lagoon 380 Infinity catamaran. She's lovey and comfy. One person can manage the sails in calm winds/seas. There are three berths and the boat would be very comfortable for 3-4 people. We are considering another couple or 1-2 individuals.
