Deckhand - Permanent - $1000 - Spain
UPDATED Sep '23 - now 2 positions are open:
Looking for a technical competent to take part in all activities onboard such as helming, navigating, trimming, cooking and maintenance (hull cleaning, rust cleaning, polishing, general cleaning,++), plus various electrical and electronic upgrades onboard.
The person should help with various oceanographic measurement campaigns (e.g. ocean plastic, debris, floating obstacles). There will be installations of various state-of-the-art sensor systems and the operation of these. The latter will involve longer periods of sailing, predominantly in the western Mediterranean.
There will also be a haul-out with related yard work (November/December) before a second measurement campaign will start.
You should preferably have experience in offshore sailing and preferably on faster catamarans. Since we will be pursuing maritime research and development activities such as e.g. mapping of maritime pollution (e.g. plastic), logging of metocean parameters and more, it is an advantage if you have an interest in maritime science.
The opportunity is on a relatively fast new 65 feet performance catamaran sailing at 20+ kn at times.
You will have your own private cabin and the position is with salary (negotiable depending on qualifications). You will have a proper contract and we will sign your seamans book.
We are currently sailing around the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain.
Please forward a complete maritime CV and at least 3 references.
PS Due to gender balance, we would preferably look for a female but can also accept male.
